ImmiAccount upload limits: file size and formats
Home Affairs publishes attachment rules in its ImmiAccount help pages. Here is a summary with links to the official wording.
Visa applications (including sponsorship and nomination)
- Each attachment can be up to 5MB.
- Accepted extensions: bmp, dcm, doc, docx, dot, gif, jpg, pdf, png, ppt, pptx, rtf, txt, xls, xlsx.
- Compressed files (such as ZIP) and encrypted PDF files cannot be accepted.
- For documents with more than one page, provide the pages in a single PDF document.
- Scan each document separately and include both sides; scan in colour if the original is in colour.
- The maximum number of files ranges from 30 to 60 depending on the application type.
Citizenship applications
The help page says the Department prefers images in jpg format and asks you to limit each file to 500Kb. It also says compressed files and encrypted PDFs cannot be accepted, and that you should scan the original document rather than a photocopy or certified copy.
How to meet these limits
- Several scanned pages of one document? Combine them with Merge PDF or Images to PDF.
- PDF over 5MB? Try Compress PDF, or split it if the department only needs some pages.
- iPhone HEIC photo? HEIC is not in the accepted list; convert it to JPG.
- Need a JPG under 500Kb? Use Compress to 200 KB or set a custom limit in Compress an image.
- Password-protected PDF? Save an unprotected copy first — encrypted PDFs are rejected.
Low-quality scans can delay processing, according to Home Affairs, so check every page is readable after compression.
